Individual therapy is also identified as individual counseling and/or psychotherapy is a process in which individual’s work one-on-one with a trained professional in a safe, caring, structured and confidential environment. The treatment modality often used is strength and behavioral based. This specialized approach provides an opportunity to speak in a safe and free environment with an ultimate goal of overcoming presenting problems and/or adversities in the home or community.
Most common theoretical frameworks used in practice include: Cognitive behavior treatment, applied behavioral analysis, psychodynamic, and psychoanalytic treatment modalities in an effort to help clients enter different phases of the treatment process.
Recreational mentoring is designed to improve and maintain the physical, mental and emotional well-being of clients served. A variety of techniques will be used including arts, crafts, service animals, sports, games, dance and movement, drama, music and community outings. This recreational and creative approach provides a non-threatening environment that may help to reduce depression, stress and anxiety; and therefore, build confidence, increase motivation, independence and provide an effective way to communicate with others. The mentor will work directly with the mentee in an effort to create a specialized treatment plan tailored to the individual’s needs.
A highly qualified and trained clinician designs the treatment goals that will be used to support the child and family’s needs. This evidence based approach will provide families with alternatives to navigate through real life scenarios, breaking down tasks into small and manageable parts, implementing pivotal response training, self- management tactics, naturalistic teaching strategies, story based interventions, and adjusting to routines and schedules. In some instances, applied behavior analysis tactics and techniques are implemented into sessions.
Special Events & Training/ Workshops
CARAFAP sponsors quarterly and yearly events to fundraise and help support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and those who have a mental health diagnosis. Such events are designed to increase awareness, advocacy and educate the general public.
Training & Workshops can be customized upon an agency's needs. CARAFAP conducts monthly trainings that are often open to the general public.
Animal Assisted Therapy
Our special therapy program utilizes animals such as therapy dogs and horses as an intervention designed to improve socialization skills, interpersonal relations, motor coordination, emotional dysregulation and coping mechanisms to effectively handle conflicts that may arise in everyday life. The psychological advantages of this non-traditional treatment will aid the client with increased self-confidence, increased interest to explore the outside world, enhanced patience, emotional control, self-discipline, fulfillment and enjoyment. CARAFAP conducts monthly horse riding events for their clients.
Social & Life Skills
Life skills coaching is provided individually or in group settings to foster effective and smooth transition to middle school, high school, college and/or adulthood. The skilled provider will educate the individual with managing finances, safety awareness, independence, dressing appropriately for the weather, legal aid, exploitation, self-awareness, employment, problem solving skills, and adaptive daily living skills. Specialized workshops are also provided and open to the public. A treatment plan is customized to each client.
Autism Waiver Services
Intensive Individual Support Services: This is a service that provides a holistic and in home services for 25 hours per week. This treatment modality is dynamic and universal and allows the direct support professional to integrate role plays, visual demonstrations, positive and negative reinforcement, and teaching effective and appropriate child rearing practices. Quantitative and qualitative data are measured by the skilled provider to identify and examine areas of improvements needed to help restore and strengthen the family unit. A treatment plan is created to identify goals, objectives and to enhance and improve communication.
Respite Services: Services are designed to provide relief, aid, and emergency services to families of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is a service where family members can obtain a sense of relief knowing that their children are safe and cared for with highly qualified and efficient services.
Family Consultation Services: Family Consultation Services are provided to further educate family members about autism spectrum disorder and ways to mitigate unwanted behaviors. A treatment plan is often created with the family.

CARAFAP consultants provide an array of services for individuals diagnosed with severe/profound autism to high functioning autism (Asperger Syndrome), in addition to those with health illness.
CARAFAP employs qualified and licensed contractors who have the following credentials: PhD, EdD, LICSW/LCSW, LPC, BCBA, SLP, MSW, BS. CARAFAP offers comprehensive support to its clients, adheres to HIPAA guidelines, and ensures confidentiality practices are upheld. A skilled and/or licensed clinician conducts and completes an intake assessment to explore potential needs and determines the most appropriate services needed for the individual. Professionals employed and contracted through CARAFAP have diverse professional backgrounds which make them highly skilled and qualified to provide service.
By using a strengths based and directive hands-on-approach, CARAFAP specialized services include:
